Thesis Test #1 - TEWWG

Zora Neal Hurston uses the motif of dreams to represent the futility of obtaining our desires. She does this to contrast the characters' goals and to expose the fluidity/inconsistency of human goals.

  1. Does your thesis take into account both males/females? Are you saying that none of the characters ever achieve their dreams?

  2. I like the overall idea, but I agree with Anthony. Is the attempt to achieve a dream alwyas completely futile? If so, you have just ruined my life.

  3. It's a nice thesis with some good foundation. I personally think its good because it's debatable but like Quach said, you'll want to target a specific group otherwise it sounds like dreams are useless.

  4. The idea was that regardless as to what the characters achieved (yes, both male and female), it was never enough to make them happy. Janie had problems with each of her husbands and even her ideal in Tea Cake was insufficient; Having complete control of the town wasn't enough for Jody; etc.
